Eleanor Sky

Where does the time go?  Motherhood is a crazy place to be.  That first year seemingly lasts forever; we anticipate our little one's first milestones and do our best to not feel competitive when Baby Jones meets his/her milestone first.  We worry when their progression does not match up with our favourite baby guidebook or worse with other babies in the same age bracket.  We almost wish all that time away, eager to end the sleepless nights, eager for them to sit up, roll over, wave/hi-5/pound, hear their first word... to see whom our little one will blossom into.  Their first birthday arrives out of nowhere and we wonder how those very long days went by so very fast!

It's different with the second.  The first one breaks you in, teaches you the ropes.  The second one arrives to calmer arms, ready to rock and soothe.  There is less time for panic and adaptation, and more time to take it aaaallllllll in.

Miss Eleanor was featured a week before Christmas while still perfecting her tiny toes and lips in her Mama's belly.  Back then, she was Chicadoan to Mama Rita and Big Sis Verity, today she is Eleanor Sky Sheena Beckett.

I tried to look back and capture the things I remembered when my little ones were itsy bitsy ones.  The hours spent holding and comforting this very tiny being with their funny shaped body and even funnier bodily movements that would always draw a loving smile across my very tired face.

How I wish I had a few photos of me breastfeeding my kids as newborns.  It seems so impossible that I don't have any considering it was what I did 50% of the time.  Gazing at their tiny face, covered with down, playing and kissing with their free hand, grasping for dear life onto one of your fingers.

IMG_5549 triple.jpg

How fast they grow… We forget how tiny they are, how their heads could be cradled like a large grapefruit in our palms with their bodies small enough to comfortably fit the length of our thighs.

IMG_5616 copy.jpg

The millions upon millions of smooches, barely a whisper of a kiss on their tiny faces once finally asleep...

IMG_5653.jpg

In the blink of an eye, it's gone.  Their chubby arms and legs branch out into lean limbs and that perfectly round belly melts away and stretches itself right out.

Just like that, Verity has become a big sister.

And so begins the journey of these 3 lovely ladies.

It's a crazy beautiful life.

Samesies! : Adelyn + Jessalyn

We are almost caught up with the last lovelies of 2013!  We were so blessed to have had our first set of newborn twins become part of The Pauhaus family before year's end.  On November 26th, Rob and Yvonne Lowe welcomed their firstborn girls into the world: Adelyn + Jessalyn.

If you are a fellow local, you have probably had the pleasure of meeting Rob at the newest cafe in Ladner, Stir Coffee.  It's the place to be, proudly serving 49th Parallel coffee, freshly brewed  loose-leaf teas and probably the best baked goods of all the coffee shops around here.  (Not to mention, fellow winner of this year's Reader's Choice Awards in The Delta Optimist!  Asians in the house!)  I was over the moon when I received Rob's message to photograph his girls.  If you've met Rob, you know he's the nicest most genuine guy out there.  Not only was he one of the many generous businesses that donated prizes to the Change Your Hair, Change Your Life Fundraiser this passed Summer, but he and Yvonne are continuously involved in fundraising and giving back.

The girls had an agenda all of their own, taking turns sleeping, crying, feeding, and filling diapers.  Rob and I took the girls while exhausted Mama Yvonne took the opportunity to rest and nap in between feeds.  And while I'm on the subject, may I please take this moment to give major props to parents of multiples?  YOU ARE SUPERHUMANS.  Yes, I'm sure getting double the cuteness and double the hugs and kisses is like being a pampered celebrity, but man I can't even imagine the rough days when both of them are going through growth spurts or getting teeth and you truly do not get the chance to sit down for the luxurious 15-20 minutes throughout the day that those with one baby complain about!

Sweet Adelyn

We have really lucked out with sweet and kind-hearted clients.  With the start of this New Year, I've been doing a lot of looking back and feeling so grateful for all the new people I have met and connected with.  Looking forward to seeing these little cuties grow up and raise some toddler tyranny in the Lowe household!

2014

HNY WEB 2.jpg

Very excited to see where 2014 takes us.

A huge thank you to everyone who has become part of The Pauhaus family!  We could not have asked for a better first year and we owe it all to the love, support, and faith of our friends, family and loyal clients (many whom have become friends!).  The learning curves and growing pains throughout this first years have helped us refine The Pauhaus look and experience.  Every single baby, mama, family, and couple have been true inspirations, reminding us why we adore what we do.  It is hard to believe that it was just over a year ago that we made the jump into photography, providing you with long lasting memories to keep and share with your future generations.  Looking back on the body of work produced, I can safely say it was a leap worth taking!  There are no words to describe the gratitude and the joy I feel being able to do what I love and bring happiness to others.  Thank you a million times over for the honour of photographing you and your loved ones!

Hope everyone's last day of 2013 was well spent with loved ones, that everyone arrived home safe and sound, and had a great greasy breakfast to soak up all that bubbly!

XO

...and Baby Makes 3

One of the most rewarding parts of being a photographer has been the people I have met and the stories they have shared with me.  I have had cried in the car following a handful of consultations and sessions, inspired and overwhelmed by the courage these clients have drawn on in the face of adversity.  It is always a pleasure to capture the joyful moments for families and couples to remember, but for those trying to make lemonade out of lemons, I am both deeply humbled and honoured.  The stakes are higher.  For many of these clients, it is a turning point in their lives, and these photos are part of that first step towards healing and growing.

Rita is due any second now as I write this post.  She was 36.5 weeks when we did this session a week and a half ago, we were lucky to have booked a day that worked for both of us before Christmas.  These photos mark a new beginning for her, her beautiful daughter Verity, and their new baby, nicknamed Chickadoan!  The aim was to capture their special mother-daughter relationship before the arrival of baby number two.

I feel like we got it.

Thank you Rita & Sweet Verity for welcoming us into your home and allowing me to capture these special moments for you.  It truly truly was a great honour.

Katie + James

Our Holiday Sessions came to an end and just as I was looking forward to planning Chloe's 3rd birthday, I received a small wave of last minute clients looking to book in time for Christmas, or in the case of two clients, booking before their bellies popped!  Our first maternity session was with Katie + James.  James came to me via our mutual friend and my neighbour Cait whom I had done maternity photos with earlier this year.  After a few anxious months on bedrest, they made it safely through to the last weeks of their pregnancy and made sure to capture this very special belly 12 days before Katie was due!

Belly Double.jpg

We did some headshots to preserve her pre-baby glow.  Many of us mamas are so hard on ourselves throughout our pregnancy, so worried of what we look like.  It is often only after the baby has been born that we are able to see clearly how truly beautiful we were before being robbed of sleep and thrust into motherhood.  We see ourselves through an overly critical lens and not for the amazing creatures we are.  We lose sight of the strength and power of our bodies that are able to undergo such intense transformations in order to produce life.

IMG_1568.jpg

In addition to the sweet and traditional photos of the Mama-to-be with her belly or with partner, I aim to capture these women in all their pregnant glory.  Not only to celebrate the 9-10 months of sickness, headaches, bed rest, complications, physical aches and discomforts, etc.. but to remind them of their strength and give them confidence to go forth into the very scary world of motherhood.
