Leni Saga

Welcome LENI SAGA!

There were so many babies this year, turning many only siblings into Eldest siblings!  Bram became a big brother to Baby Leni at the start of summer and seems more than happy in his new role.  It's pretty crazy and surreal to see so many friends in the place that I was in 6-7 years ago, juggling two little lives so close together.  It seemed to drag on forever, but now that it's passed, it feels like it went too fast and I barely remember any of it at all.  Although I sometimes feel jealous or bitter that I was the first to have babies, it has been a gift in so many ways.  Through blogging and sharing my experiences, it was (slightly) less of a shock of things to come for my friends once they came tumbling down the rabbit hole.  It has also allowed me to better cherish these special times and as a result, be able to capture these special moments with greater heart.  Being ahead of the curve, I know the important things that will be missed or forgotten.  I know the thoughts, feelings, the tiredness and all the internal mish-mash of these early days.  These exhausting times are precious.  Slow down an enjoy it because when it's over, man is it over!  I MISS IT!!!!

The Krasovecs

Took a break from my own crazy family life to photograph the sweetest beginning to another family's crazy life-to-be.  The Lower Mainland is a small area, smaller than we think.  Chelsea found me through a co-worker who just happens to be a very good friend of mine that I have photographed many times and whose sister I photographed last Fall with the arrival of their first baby, Bowen.  It turns out Chelsea already knew me as we went to high school together!  Of course, she remembers me as the Asian girl who made out with her boyfriend (and now husband) at the bus top ALL THE TIME, but now we have 3 kids so it's all good.  Ha!

Sometimes I get caught up in the studio set up trend of modern day Anne Geddes photos.  It's hard not to with the beautiful even lighting and the many props on hand, but I need to constantly remind myself that it isn't how I enjoy creating memories.  I love capturing babies and families in their home, in the natural light that is part of their everyday environment, especially during these precious early days.  I loved this session, and not just because it had great light in numerous rooms.  It was great energy and I was over the moon to be holding a teensy tiny newborn all over again...

Welcome to the world, Pierce!

Baby Bowen

It's baby season in my circle of friends!  I was so close to the finish line as Moses just started Kindergarten with Chloe to follow next year and now, I, too, have one last little bun baking in my oven.  Holding these fresh tiny babies feels brand new as it's been so long since Chloe was this small!  I am frightened for how I will re-learn and re-adapt to this phase of motherhood, but my heart who knows all too well just how quickly time passes, is eager to cradle another delicate and precious little life in my arms one last time.

Congrats to Jess + Jared on their newest bundle of joy and trouble!

Wren Verona

After all the editing and compiling the photos for this post together, I'm at a loss of where to begin with Little Miss Wren.  I've known the Schmidt sisters since Grade 8.  Like many other girls, we were shuffled against our will to attend Little Flower Academy, an all girls Catholic school.  Yes.  I'm one of THOSE girls…  The girls that attended Blessed Sacrament Elementary were a tight crew and I was introduced to Ashley Schmidt via a number of her friends.  I was intimidated by her height and how she loved to play pranks on her friends.  Her sister, Nicole, 2 years older terrified me all through high school.  Ashley and I have continued to be friends after all these years, growing much closer in the last few.  It was only until Nicole gave birth to her first little guy, Rook, 3 years ago, that we began to hang out and I learned she was much less terrifying and a lot more hilarious.

I am so grateful to have such wonderful and loving friends in my life and I'll say it a million more times, I am so honoured to photograph their life milestones and growing families.   It's so special to be able to see such a long time friend welcome their first baby into the world, to share that love and wonder with them, to see the features of a face you've known forever suddenly appear in a brand new miniature version, and to see their heart transform before your very eyes as they fall in love with this tiny little person.

It is insane the things first time mothers do during their last weeks of nesting, Ashley and Ivan handmade this beautiful bird mobile.

Beautiful Wren

I look forward to seeing you grow up
and to count the many ways you will be like your Mama.
