3rd Annual Facepainting BBQ

3 years ago, I was hired to do some facepainting at an end of the summer backyard BBQ for a local Tsawwassen family.  Their guests all had children and the host felt it would be advantageous to have some "entertainment" and "distraction" to allow the adults to enjoy one another's company with as little whining and pestering as possible.  It went great and I was overjoyed to be invited back for a second year.  I brought along my button maker for my second gig as an extra activity for the kids, ages 3-8.  Another fantastic evening.

This evening's gig was BY FAR the best!  It's crazy seeing all these kids only ONCE a year.  They are still so young that a year really does a number on them.  I know when I get the call for next summer, the oldest girl will definitely be my height!

This year I offered a photobooth along with the facepainting.  OH YEAH BABY.

I can not put into words how much fun I had.  One of the parental units came over and were thanking me for taking care of their kids and I just shrugged it off telling them that I was doing two of my favourite things with the sweetest and most well-behaved group of kids, it was MY PLEASURE.  seriously.  i could have stayed another 4 hours.

I don't know if it is just the girls growing up or if they feel more comfortable after 3 years of this facepainting, but they were just a full on blast.  They yelled my name throughout the evening to watch them do their gymnastics, their "routines", handstands, and crazy poses.  Even our token boy, 10 years old, was impressed with my ability to paint the Diamond Sword from his favourite videogame, Minecraft.

They were blown away at my level of talent and imagination, that they could witness hand painted illustrations of their favourite characters or ideas come to life.  YOU ARE THE BEST PAINTER IN THE ENTIRE WORLD!!!!    No, I'm not.  I went to Emily Carr and I witnessed dudes painting 10 foot high-realism oil paintings of celebrities and I can safely say that stuff is outta my league.  This lighthearted and playful illustration gig is where it's at for me!

Fan Brush for INSTA-lashes and freckles

By the end of the night we had 3 little puppies!!!

I really love this gig and hope after putting this out there that more people hire me for this Combo Service because it is truly the funnest thing in the world!!!!!   OH!  And the frosting and cherry on top was that they all gave me the biggest group hug at the end of the night!!!  BEST GIG EVER.

GET AT ME IF YOU ARE INTERESTED!!!!

XOXO

Jericho Beach with Caela & Brian

It's funny how life works.  A long time ago, back in 2008, when shopping was a priority and i could rock tight on super tight tops and jeans, Caela hired me to work at Westbank.  She was 17 at the time and I was applying to usurp her position as receptionist in the swanky office at Shaw Tower.  I was hired in May and 3 months later I was pregnant, just in time for my 3 months probation!

And so began our friendship.  At first it was a little rocky, but by the end of my pregnancy, we had grown close, and ever since then, Caela has become one of my closest friends, seeing me through both my pregnancies and spoiling both my children for the past 4 years!

She and Brian are highschool sweethearts and have finally decided to tie the knot and if I have things my way, popping out a few kids :)

We headed to Jericho Beach where the sand was soft and cool, the boats lightly tossed in front of the North Shore mountains and in the distance the downtown lights flickered and brought the city to life.  We arrived just as the sun was going down to catch that beautiful Vancouver summer light.

You guys are a perfect couple.  Thanks for taking me out for late night tacos and driving me home.  I can't wait to help you through with the planning for the next year and to photograph your big day!

Love ya babe!

The Hastie Wedding

Well, this wedding was just the beesknees.  The amount of time, energy, hands and planning that went into this perfect summer wedding is astounding.

I became close friends with Emily just as they had begun their wedding planning.  I was SO EXCITED to receive a Save the Date, I immediately posted it on the top centre of my fridge, feeling as if the most popular girl in school just invited me to an exclusive slumber party.

Here is a small taste of their beautiful beautiful beautiful wedding at Emily's family farm in Ladner.   Enjoy!

Dirty 30

photo by Lindsay Elliott.  hair by Jade Kugelman.  make-Up by Oz.

I had a portrait session with some top notch ladies the evening before my 30th birthday.  Lindsay hailed from the city into Richmond to take some fun portraits of me, celebrating my 30 years of life.  I met Oz for the first time.  She is a teacher at Blanche MacDonald and was highly recommended to me by my friend Nicole.  She is also hilarious and really really REALLY nice.  Oz and Lindsay met me at Jade's home where I enjoyed some royal treatment for my big day: hair, make up and bright camera flashes masking the tired mother inside if but for one evening!  As you can see, they did not disappoint.

Check out their work and book these girls for your next special occasion.  Masters of the Universe

Pretty amazing for unedited images!  If you look closely to the two photos flanked with black space, you will realize that it is Jade, holding up a flash while simultaneously rocking Nova in her Ergo carrier!  I love these sort of behind the scenes "do what ya gotta do..." situations!

We had a crazy weekend with back to back partying for my 30th Birthday and a stagette for my long time high school friend, Ashley.

We rented a suite at the Fairmont Pacific Rim down in Vancouver's Coal Harbour neighbourhood.  25-30 people showed up throughout the evening, sharing drinks, food, stories and good times.

Thank you to everyone who helped make the day special.  From those who helped enormously with prep, those who went out of their way to spoil me with lovely gifts, and those that showed up just to partyyyyyy.   To Jade & Oz for doing another incredible job with my hair and make up, making me feel fantastic!  To everyone who passed the camera around helping me to take photos all night long!

Truly a great night.  Let's do it again next summer just for fun!!!!

Maybe a little more jumping in the bed and tub action?

XOXO
